SoccerRockz U'9's Tournament

2 Aug 2016

Yet again we were blessed with another warm and sunny day at Coventry Sporting FC. The schedule was set and 13 grassroots teams joined us to compete for the prestigious SoccerRockz Trophy.

The group stages saw some fantastic performances and individual displays. As the tournament approached the quarter finals stage you could see the heat was really taking its toll on the players. A penalty shoot out saw a very tenacious Coventry Sphinx team exit the tournament and our very own SoccerRockz team also exiting at the Quarter Final stage to a much fancied Alvechurch FC.

The semi finals were as exciting as we hoped, with a very talented Alvis Colts team narrowly losing out to Alvechurch Lions. Meanwhile Northampton United met Alvechurch Tigers in the second semi final with Northampton successfully booking their place in the Final.

The Final saw Northampton United and Alvechurch FC go head to head. Two teams who boasted some very talented young players. This match was a fantastic advertisement for grassroots football, the football was fast and slick with both team well organised and defensively astute. Half time came with both teams level at 0-0. It was clear too see that both teams had given their all! After the whistle blew for the start of the second half Northampton took an early lead. This proved decisive as Northampton went on to win the game and win the 2016 SoccerRockz Trophy.

We would like to thank all of the teams who have joined us not only for the U'9's Tournament but for the 7's & 8's as well. We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting all the grassroots teams who have entered and have even had the pleasure of welcoming talent scouts from Manchester United, Arsenal, Birimingham, Aston Villa, West Brom and our personal favourites Coventry City FC along the way!! Good Luck to everyone for the forthcoming season!
